A Message from the Class Teachers
Welcome to Year 3 Kangaroo's class. Mrs Addison teaches the class Monday and Tuesday and Mrs McCarthy Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Kirby is in the class all week.
Term 5 Update
We are currently reading 'Leon and the Place Between' in English. We have completed some fantastic writing thinking about different circus acts in the style of the book. Ask your child what their favourite was. We have also written diary entries from Leon's point of view.
In Maths we have been busy consolidating our number skills. The children do daily practice using addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Challenge your child and see if they can share the methods we use. We are now looking at fractions and will be thinking about finding fractions of numbers and sets of objects.
Our topic is 'Around the world in 80 days'. The children have enjoyed finding out about different countries.
In Science we are learning about Forces and Magnets. Challenge your child to tell you what happens if the north pole of a magnet touches the south pole.
We are making the most of the sunny weather and are enjoying PE lessons out on the field. Some of the children have also been taking part in the lunchtime and after school football club.
In RE we are learning about Islam. We have found out about Muhammad and will be learning about the five pillars of Islam.
A very warm welcome to year 3. We hope that your child has settled in and enjoyed their first few weeks of the term. Thank you to all of those who attended our 'Meet the Teacher' session, it was lovely to see so many of you.
Term 1/2 Update
We have had a busy start to to the term and have been working hard. In English we are currently studying 'Gregory Cool'. We have enjoyed sharing the story and have been thinking about how we would welcome a new child into our class. We have used our senses to describe a Carribean beach and looked at extending our writing using similes. We will continue to do English activities around this for the next few weeks.
In Maths, we started the year looking at place value. This week we have started looking at using more formal methods of addition. We are doing 'Big Maths' daily and the children are enjoying trying to beat their scores. Hopefully, your child has shared their times table book with you. This should be brought home on a Friday for a test the following Friday.
We had an exciting Science day last week in which we made the different types of rock from chocolate. We will be continuing our 'Rocks' topic by looking at fossils and the children will have the opportunity to make their own fossils.
Our topic this terms is 'Transport through the ages'. We are very excited about our upcoming trip to the London transport museum.
Homework is set weekly on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. Children are always welcome to come to homework club which runs on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They will receive support and help with their work if needed. We also ask the children to read at home as often as possible. The children receive raffle tickets for reading at home and we have our whole school reading initiative in which children receive prizes for reading at home.
We have PE on a Monday and Wednesday. It would be helpful if the children could have their kits in all week as we sometimes have the opportunity to join in different workshops.
Please do feel free to pop in and see us if you have any questions or concerns.
We look forward to working with you over the coming year.
Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Addison
