Year 3/4: Kangaroos Class
A Message from the Class Teachers
Welcome to Year 3/4 Kangaroo's class. Mrs Addison teaches the class Monday and Tuesday and Mrs McCarthy Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Kirby is in the class every morning.
A very warm welcome to Year 3/4. We hope that your child has settled in and enjoyed their first few weeks of the term. Thank you to all of those who attended our 'Meet the Teacher' session, it was lovely to see so many of you.
We have had a busy start to to the term and have been working hard. Keep it up Kangaroos!
In English we are currently studying ''The Wolf's Footprint". We have enjoyed sharing the story and have been thinking about the character's thoughts and feelings. The children have explored significant events in the story through role play and described settings using all of their senses. Over the next week the children are going to be writing their own versions of the story from another character's perspective. We have lots of interesting and exciting texts planned for the rest of the term including "The Storm" and "Jeremy Button".
In Maths, we started the year looking at place value. This week we have moved on to calculations and looking at using more formal methods of addition and subtraction, as well as continuing to practice mental methods. We are doing 'Big Maths' daily and the children are enjoying trying to beat their scores. Hopefully, your child has shared their times table challenges with you so you can see which ones they need to practice.
In Science we are studying Animals including Humans. We have started looking at nutrition, discussing the different food groups and what constitutes a healthy diet. We are moving onto skeletons and will look at different types, identify different bones and their functions. In RE, we are exploring Judiasm and learning about their faith, special places and festivals as well as significant symbols.
Our topic this terms is 'Ancient Egypt' - one of my favourites! The children will be learning all about the pharaohs, mummification, the pyramids, hieroglyphics - and much more. All through fun and exciting art and practical activities.
Homework is set weekly on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. Children are always welcome to come to homework club which runs on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They will receive support and help with their work if needed. We also ask the children to read at home as often as possible. The children receive raffle tickets for reading at home and we have our whole school reading initiative in which children receive prizes for reading at home.
We have PE on a Monday and Wednesday. It would be helpful if the children could have their kits in all week as we sometimes have the opportunity to join in different workshops.
Please do feel free to pop in and see us if you have any questions or concerns.
We look forward to working with you over the coming year.
Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Addison
